Frequently asked questions

What is DictateHub?
A professional dictation recorder for iPhone and iPad that attaches structured metadata ("index fields") to every recording and exports it to the destination of your choice. See the home page for a full overview.
Where are my recordings stored?
On your device, until you transcribe or export them. Recordings and transcripts live in the app's folder, which you can see in the Files app and which is included in your normal iCloud or computer backups. DictateHub does not upload your recordings to our servers — we don't operate any. See the Privacy Policy.
How do index fields get filled in?
Manually, from a default value, from a per-recording prompt, or by scanning a barcode. With DictateHub Enterprise, one scan can also fill the rest of the fields from your organization's records.
How does transcription work?
Transcription is part of DictateHub Pro. Add a key for your own speech-to-text provider — Deepgram, AssemblyAI, ElevenLabs, or Azure — and DictateHub can transcribe live while you record or in a batch afterwards. Audio goes directly from your device to that provider; it never passes through us. The provider bills you for usage under your account with them. Transcripts are synced word by word to the audio (tap a word to jump there) and can be exported as an MP4 transcript video.
How does database lookup work?
Database lookup, the work queue, and export logging are part of DictateHub Enterprise. They run through the DictateHub Connector, a small service your IT team installs next to your databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, or SQL Server). The app talks to the Connector over HTTPS and never sends SQL from the device; database passwords stay on your server. See DictateHub Enterprise.
Which export destinations are supported?
The Files app is free. DictateHub Pro adds a local folder, iCloud Drive, S3-compatible storage (AWS S3, MinIO, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, DigitalOcean Spaces), handoff to another app via a URL scheme, and your own REST API.
My S3 / MinIO upload fails — why?
Endpoints must use HTTPS. Plaintext http:// endpoints are blocked by iOS App Transport Security. Point your storage at an HTTPS endpoint (self-hosted MinIO supports TLS). Also confirm your bucket, region, and access keys are correct.
Can I use it hands-free?
Yes — DictateHub supports HID/Bluetooth foot pedals for record, stop, and quick-export.
What's free, what needs Pro, and what is Enterprise?
Recording, index fields, filename templates, barcode scanning, and export to the Files app are free. DictateHub Pro ($12.99/month or $99.99/year, with a 7-day free trial on annual) unlocks transcription, foot-pedal control, and every export destination. DictateHub Enterprise adds database lookup, the work queue, export logging, and the DictateHub Connector; it is licensed to organizations directly — contact us.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
On your device: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → DictateHub. Subscriptions are managed by Apple; deleting the app does not cancel them.
How do I restore a purchase?
In the app's paywall or onboarding upgrade screen, tap Restore Purchases.
What iOS version do I need?
iOS 18 or later, on iPhone or iPad.
